The Process of Charcoal

When we think of charcoal we normally in England we think of BBQ fuel.  Summer evening gathered with friend around warm embers. While some industrious member of the household takes on the task of cooking an array of food over the hot coals.
This is a totally different scene to a winter's evening when you need the fires burning inside. At Stovepartsdirect we are dedicated to getting and keeping your multi fuel burning stove in working order.  We supply replacement stove glass for all stoves delivered free to all areas of mainland United Kingdom.

But in some scientific fields and certain parts of the world charcoal takes on a totally different role.  It can be the difference between life and death.

Charcoal  is a unique substances. It s made from coal or wood or other substance.  Its activation occurs when very high temperatures are coupled with gas or some other agent.  It increases its surface  by heating and removing all moisture. It becomes  a light, black residue, consisting of carbon and any remaining ash.. The process of activation of Charcoal is usually produced by slow pyrolysis, the heating of wood or other substances in the absence of oxygen.

It is usually an impure form of carbon as it contains ash; however, sugar charcoal is among the purest forms of carbon readily available, particularly if it is not made by heating but by a dehydration reaction with sulfuric acid to minimise the introduction of new impurities, as impurities can be removed from the sugar in advance. The resulting soft, brittle, lightweight, black, porous material resembles coal.  Lets discuss activate charcoal which is widely used in the emergency treatment of certain forms of poisons.  Because of its absorption qualities it acts as preventative and stops poisons from leaving the stomach and entering the blood stream.
Quite often this can be a continuous process until all the poisons are absorbed.   Activate charcoal also contains sorbitol which is a sweetener which can act as a laxative.  Advice by the Mayo Clinic warn that activate charcoal should only be taken under doctors supervision.

At Stovepartsdirect we continuously research various forms of natural energy.  Our main business is the supply of replacement stove glass and stove spares.
